Please note… Unless expressly indicated, Subterranean is a “21 and over” club. You need to be at least 21 years of age to gain admittance to the bar. You need to present a government issued photo I.D. to our door staff to gain admittance. Unfortunately we have no room for leniency in this regard, it’s our liquor license on the line.

Promoting your show…

Subterranean submits its schedule to all major print, radio and internet publications. We also have an online calendar on our web site. Flyers & Poster may be dropped off at Subterranean (we suggest at least 3 weeks before your show).

For up-and-coming local bands, however, please understand that in addition to these promotional mainstays, the best way to support your show and guarantee a good crowd at any of your shows is to personally contact your friends and fans (and friends of family and fans).

NO POSTERING ON CITY PROPERTY ALLOWED!!!

Subterranean recently ran into a little trouble with the law due to excessive amounts of posters in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area. We love that bands are promoting their shows, but as it turns out the City of Chicago is less than enthused. According to law 10-8-320 the fine folks of Streets And Sanitation are planning on fining you (and we mean YOU, not our music venue) no less than $10.00 and no more than $200.00 PER POSTER if they catch you doing it. The city is very serious about this and enforcing a “strong public prevention campaign.”

Luckily, there are other ways you can promote your show that don’t require getting a citation. Here are some suggestions:

1. We strongly encourage asking local businesses if you can hang up posters in their windows. There are many music friendly businesses that will let you hang up posters and there is less chance of them getting ripped down than on the street.

2. You can send out e-mail blasts, create Facebook events, Tweet, Instagram, Tumblr, and what have you.

3. Music blogs are a great way to spread the word. We recommend contacting some of our favorite websites on the media list below about possible coverage.
