Venue Bio

Since 1994, Subterranean has been a cornerstone of the Wicker Park live music & nightlife scene. Built in the 1890s, the historic structure at 2011 W North Avenue has a storied past, having once served as a brothel, a bathhouse, and as a wire room for gambling during the prohibition era. Owner Robert Gomez has worked hard to preserve the original features of the space that have been in place since the building’s creation and give Subterranean its one of a kind character, including the iconic Tiffany & brass chandelier that hangs above the dance floor.

The Subterranean stage has played host to notable and legendary acts including Dinosaur Jr, Lizzo, Tame Impala, Lil Peep, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Halsey, Pussy Riot, Built To Spill, Brand New, BADBADNOTGOOD, Lee Scratch Perry, Alabama Shakes, Durand Jones & The Indications, Fall Out Boy, and is home to some of Chicago’s longest running residencies: Thursday nights’ Reggae Gold and the longest-running hip-hop open mic in the nation, the 606 Open Mic (Tuesdays).
